FACTS.....

What a man! Mother is the head of, it seems everything! If there is a problem at The Ministry ask Mother - he'll know! He is the all-seeing-eye, the man with the know-how, the rather corpulant man in the wheelchair! With Rhonda constantly by his side, tending to his every need and the myriad of telephones close at hand (including the luke warm line to Washington). Mother is where every agent comes for information, advice and sometimes a jolly good shouting at!

Patrick Newell

FACTS.....

Born, 27th March 1932 in Hadley, Suffolk
He attended Taunton School and RADA (where he deliberately started putting on weight!)
He completed his National Service and began starring in comedy roles, mainly as a fat villain
As well as starring in the Avengers as Mother from 1968 (The Forget Me Knot) until the show ended in 1969, he also played Smallwood in the black and white episode, The Town of No Return along with Diana Rigg (as Mrs Peel)
He was last seen assuring viewers that Steed and Tara will be back, after they had flown off into space in Steed's homemade rocket....we are still waiting!
As well as other successful roles on screen, he was also spotted in The Young Ones episodes, "Oil" and "Boring" in 1982.
Sadly, Patrick died in 1988 in Essex.
